Tess was diagnosed with MGUS one month after her 40th birthday, after developing severe neuropathy in her extremities. Like many patients with complex symptoms, Tess endured a prolonged diagnostic journey and difficulty finding therapeutic options that effectively controlled her pain without limiting her ability to function day to day.
Her hematologist ultimately recommended a non-traditional approach aimed at reducing her pain that was often debilitating. Tess underwent 15 months of plasmapheresis for symptom management. She was later diagnosed with multiple myeloma requiring immediate treatment, and completed induction chemotherapy followed by an autologous stem cell transplant.
Today, Tess uses her experience to support and encourage patients and caregivers through mentorship, advocacy, and honest conversation—helping others feel informed, seen, and less alone as they navigate the realities of diagnosis, treatment, and recovery.
