Michael R.

Initially Diagnosed:

2011

Current Diagnosis:

In Remission

Treatments Received:

Revlimid, Velcade, dexamethasone, Stem cell transplant, radiation, orthopedic surgeries

Michael was first diagnosed in 2011 after having a tumble at the beach which resulted in a fractured neck. His physician described his bones as looking “moth eaten”. Michael began induction chemotherapy and infusions. In December 2011 Michael had a stem cell transplant after which he became septic and spent 245 days in the hospital. Michael continued maintenance therapy for 9 years and is currently on a drug holiday with no active treatments. Michael attributes much of his recovery and strength to the support of his wife, Monique and their 2 children. He also believes alternative therapies such as yoga and massage help deal with the daily struggle of living with multiple myeloma.
