5 Simple Ways to Kick-Start Your MMRF Walk Fundraiser

Ready to fundraise for your upcoming MMRF Walk? These proven strategies will help you hit your goal.

One of the most powerful ways you can support the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation’s mission is by joining an in-person or virtual MMRF Walk. With their fundraising, our dedicated supporters help power the MMRF’s innovative clinical trials, research studies, and best-in-class education and support programs.

Whether you’re registering for your first MMRF Walk or working to hit an ambitious fundraising goal, you can take a few simple actions to build momentum and inspire support.

1. Share your story

One of the most effective ways to inspire donations is to tell supporters why you’re walking. Whether you’re honoring a loved one, celebrating a treatment milestone, or supporting the myeloma community, sharing your personal connection helps supporters understand the impact of their gift and why this cause matters to you.

If you haven’t already, take a few minutes to update your fundraising page with a photo and a brief message about what inspired you to join an MMRF Walk.

2. Make the first gift

Looking for an easy way to build fundraising momentum fast? Be the first donor.

Making the first gift to your fundraising page isn’t just about the dollars raised. It’s about leading by example. A self-donation shows supporters that you’re personally invested in your fundraising goal and helps create the momentum that can inspire others to give as well. It doesn’t have to be a large amount. Whether you give $5, $25, or $50, every donation makes a difference.

3. Ask your supporters to match your gift

Once you’ve personally made a gift to your page, you can use that action as an opportunity to reach out to family, friends, colleagues, and neighbors and ask them to match your donation. Donors are more likely to give when they’re given clear action to take.

Try something like: “I just made the first donation to my fundraiser for the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) Walk. Would you consider matching my gift to help accelerate multiple myeloma research?”

A matching challenge creates urgency, gives supporters a tangible goal, and can help you double your fundraising total with just one ask.

Many companies match charitable donations, too. Use the MMRF’s matching gift tool to see if your employer will double your gift and encourage your supporters to do the same.

4. Download the MMRF Walk app

Fundraisers who use our fundraising app raise twice as much money on average as those who don’t.

Our app puts powerful fundraising tools right at your fingertips. You can track your progress in real time, thank your supporters in real time, share your fundraiser by text, generate a personalized QR code, and more.

Find the “DonorDrive Charity Fundraising” app in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store and select the MMRF Walk program to get started.

5. Create a Facebook fundraiser

Posting on social media is one of the most effective ways to get the word out about your fundraiser. Through your participant dashboard, you can connect your fundraiser to Facebook to expand your reach and make it easier to get donations where your friends and family are already spending their time.  You can also easily copy and paste your fundraising page link directly into your social posts.

After you connect your fundraiser to Facebook, share a post about why you’re walking for myeloma research and ask your followers to support your efforts. Tag your donors in the comments to say thank you and keep your fundraiser visible.
